Charles is a practising Barrister (England & Wales) and Avocat (Paris). He specialises in financial services law and regulation. He regularly advises on application of financial services law and regulation in a wide range of areas, including to foreign governments (for whom he has also drafted financial services legislation). He also appears before regulatory tribunals.

 

Charles is also a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He has extensive experience of arbitrating commercial disputes, usually with an international dimension, as a sole arbitrator and as a member of a tribunal. He is on the arbitration panels and databases of a number of arbitral bodies, including the London Metal Exchange, the Minor Metals Trade Association, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the BVI International Arbitration Centre, the ICC and the LCIA.

 

Charles was formerly a legal adviser at HM Treasury where he dealt with financial services matters, drafted legislation and assisted in the negotiation and implementation of EU directives.
